The Best Restaurant In Yerevan For Travelers

Best Restaurant in Yerevan for travelers

When arriving in Yerevan, Armenia you might be a little nervous. It feels a little bit like Europe, but also a little bit like something you have never seen before due to the post soviet architecture.

The best restaurants in Yerevan were intimidating. Why? Because everything highly rated on Google is PACKED. I didn’t know the culture yet, and I couldn’t speak with every single person due to the language barrier. Do they seat you? Do you seat yourself? I had no idea.

It’s not like you’re visiting a country that you see an Instagram Reel about every day. It’s not like you’re entering a Japanese 7/11 and you’re familiar with Ramen and Sake. I don’t know Russian, Armenian, or much of the unique culture.

You just have to send it and not care about anything if you want to have a great experience….This is the best restaurant in Yerevan for travelers

Tun Lahmajo

For an entire day I walked by this restaurant…it just looked like “the place to be”. The aesthetic was insane, and every single table outside was filled throughout the day. I had to go.

Keep in mind, Yerevan is very walkable. But if it’s too far, take an uber aka a Yandex.

As intimidating as it looked, I walked inside and they nicely pointed me to the back table. Nobody is going to make fun of you for a language barrier.

Everybody was eating Lahmajun, which is basically a thin crust style pizza that is cooked on Lavash (their bread). So that’s what I ordered.

Not only that, but I also ordered Khinkali…which are traditional Georgian dumplings.

Tun Lahmajo felt like it could’ve been THE been restaurant in Yerevan. The inside was extreme cozy and made of wood. It just felt very traditional, or what I imagined traditional would be.

I quickly received my local beer and Lahmajun, and noticed that everybody rips and eats it with there hands. It is not some type of flatbread that you would use utensils.

It was amazing and packed with way more flavor than I was expecting. When it comes to things to eat in Armenia, Lahmajun is going to be towards the top of the list.

As a lover of dumplings from all across the globe, I was eager to try the Georgian Khinkali. Once again, there were no utensils again…you are supposed to eat these with your hands.

They were unbelievably fresh and I could really taste the herbs inside. This was the best meal ever. It felt kind of weird picking them up and slurping the soup, but that’s what the other patrons did…so it didn’t matter. Slurping seems to be appropriate in more countries, than it is not.

You’re going to want to pick these up and have the soup essentially drain into your mouth. But try not to spill any on your clothes before you do other things in Yerevan.

It was a perfect sunny day in Yerevan, Armenia and this was a perfect lunch to have at one of the best looking spots in the city.

I think this was the best restaurant in Yerevan for travelers because it checked off all the boxes:

  1. Friendly Staff
  2. Locals Love It
  3. Great Food

In Armenia there isn’t like a “tourist” district or anywhere to get scammed into paying more for anything, so you will likely have a great experience anywhere you go.
