Oman Air First Class: Gone But Not Forgotten

Oman Air Boeing 787 aircraft flying against a clear blue sky.

After some time in Muscat (my thoughts here) it was time to head to Muscat International Airport (MCT) and try out Oman Air’s First Class product to Bangkok.

Please note: This isn’t really a review because I fell asleep for majority of this flight. This specific blog is for me to look back on in a few months after I work on this site and monitor my improvements. Even after 15 days I just looked back and cringed, I’m learning as I go.

Upon entering the terminal to the separate First Class check in area, I was already excited. It felt like I was the only person in the airport. After a few minutes, I had my ticket, went through security, and was off to the lounge.

Keep in mind this was one of the MOST AFFORDABLE ways to try First Class at the time. They have currently moved on from this product. It is now the “business studio”, but I still wanted to post this so I can compare it to the “new” experience when Im able to try it.

Arriving at the lounge, you look left and it’s business…. you look right and it’s first. The left has some people moving around, the right is a ghost town. Don’t quote me but I don’t think anyone other than Oman Air First Class passengers are allowed in.

I am led inside by a lovely woman who gave me a tour of everything, and she basically just said “what do you want to do”. It’s always interesting when it’s their job to take care of you and you’re like “I’m fine looking at my phone for a bit” LOL.

I decide to eat breakfast. The chef comes out and said he’d make me whatever I wanted. Opted for an omelet with some veggies and sausages (an American hot dog). It was great and the people were so friendly to me.

After that I went upstairs to the spa and did some type of hydro-massage? Never heard of it. But It was some type of water bed and it feels like you’re floating…..was extremely relaxing. You could get other real massage options as well.

When I was finished I laughed because all my bags were just at the breakfast table. Nobody was entering the lounge except me so they were like “Ya just leave it there”. For the drinkers, there’s some CRAZY types of alcohol and champagne (+$1,000+) in that lounge. Considering I’m heading to Bangkok, I was fine with my fruit juice and waters. But it was time for me to board.

I said I’d walk alone but the woman insisted that she walk me to the gate. Fantastic service all around so far and everyone would enjoy their experience in MCT airport.

The seat was amazing. Honestly, I didn’t even take a photo. I didn’t know I would be reviewing it at any point, but will add some photos from Oman Air. The amenity kit was fantastic and filled with local Omani brands. a great touch. Pajamas, blankets, pillows, everything.

They served me 2004 Charles Heidsieck Blanc des Millenaires champagne. It was delicious and punchy. This was a while ago so the menu may have changed. The attendants were super helpful and friendly….a few of them were rotating helping. First Class was entirely full.

It was so peaceful being away from the screaming kids and loud families I witnessed at the gate. The fact you can close the full sized sliding door was insane to me, it felt like I genuinely on my own plane. Nobody was in sight besides the people helping me, it was awesome

Heres where it gets bad.

Keep in mind MCT to BKK is only about 6 hours. After a few glasses of champagne I was absolutely exhausted and just passed out watching James Bond Casino Royale. I didn’t tell them to wake me up. And not even that, I shut my door LOL. The bed was so comfortable and I didn’t even make it properly. Next thing you know I’m looking at Thailand out of the window.

So I literally have no food to speak about besides breakfast at the lounge. The champagne was incredible though, I may have actually got my money’s worth with that alone.

I’m still sharing this review because this is what you DO NOT WANT TO DO. You HAVE to be ready to fully enjoy every aspect of the flight. Especially something as “quick” as 6 hours….. Is a peaceful slumber at 30k feet still exciting? Of course. I had an incredible time.

I wish I got to enjoy more of it and “test” their service. Due to it being a boutique carrier, profit is not easy, and that’s proabably why they changed the “First Class”. But if the new product is similar, it will totally be worth it.
